Delhi-Based Priest Arrested for Using AI to Create Explicit Morphed Images of Woman and Her Mother After Rejection
A Delhi-based priest, Sumit Nemchand Sharma, was arrested for allegedly using AI tools to create and circulate over 100 explicit morphed images of a Gujarat woman and her mother after she rejected his friendship request. The cybercrime operation under Mission Cyber Rakshika led to his arrest in Delhi following extensive digital tracking.
The case involves a woman from Gujarat who initially came into contact with Sharma on Instagram, where he allegedly engaged her in conversations on religious topics. According to the complaint filed with the police, Sharma later attempted to befriend her, but she refused. It is further alleged that after being rejected, he began stalking her online between December 2025 and April 6.
Investigators stated that Sharma downloaded photographs of the woman and her mother from the victim’s social media account and searched online for tools described as “AI remove clothes” applications. He then used these artificial intelligence platforms to create more than 100 explicit and morphed nude images and videos.
Police further revealed that Sharma created three fake Instagram accounts and a YouTube channel using the victim’s name and photographs. The AI-generated obscene content was uploaded on these platforms, accompanied by derogatory comments intended to damage the reputations of the woman and her family. During the investigation, authorities also discovered that he had created between eight and ten fake accounts across multiple platforms, including X, Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube.
Officials stated that the accused uploaded AI-morphed nude photographs and videos of both the complainant and her mother on fake accounts and circulated obscene material aimed at causing mental harassment and social defamation. The cybercrime officials added that the tools used were easily accessible online and were misused for creating explicit manipulated content.
The victim subsequently approached the Ahmedabad City Cyber Crime Branch for assistance. A team led by Inspector MH Bhetariya initiated digital surveillance and human intelligence operations to trace the accused. The investigation led the team to Usmanpur in North East Delhi, where a raid was conducted and Sharma was arrested.
The Ahmedabad City Cyber Crime Branch carried out the operation under its initiative titled Mission Cyber Rakshika: #SecureHerSpace, aimed at protecting women from online abuse and cyber harassment. Following his arrest, Sharma has been booked under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Information Technology Act.
The case highlights the escalating misuse of artificial intelligence tools for cyber harassment, identity misuse, and digital defamation, prompting intensified law enforcement action against emerging forms of online crime.
